Government Properties Income Trust is a real estate investment trust that primarily acquires, maintains, and leases office properties throughout the United States to government entities. Most of the square footage in the company's real estate portfolio is leased to the US Government, while a sizable percentage is leased to state governments throughout the United States as well. The company generates nearly all of its revenue in the form of rental income from leasing its buildings to tenants, mainly through medium-term lease agreements. Government Properties' holdings in California; Virginia; Washington, D.C.; Georgia; New York; and Maryland generate the majority of its total revenue. The company also provides real estate to municipal governments and international organizations.
